Stunning mid 1800's handforged copper cauldron.
This was made by local artisans in Greece and was used for cooking large quantities of food usually at festivals, heating water and so on.
The interior of the pot was tinned usually every couple of years by travelling tin smith's who would go from village to village tinning the locals pots and pans, the purpose of this was to avoid food poisoning from the copper surface.
This tradition continued into the 1970's and 1980's in many rural parts of the country.
This is a lovely pot in very good condition, flared at the bottom, very heavy, with two beautiful iron forged handles.
Patina consistent with age.
